Telehealth: Making digital delivery concepts seem rudimentary

Many counseling training programs have recently transitioned to online learning with the pandemic. The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) is now requiring accredited programs offering remote learning to demonstrate how they meet the ethical and legal requirements for digital delivery.

Within these standards, programs are not only required to train students using platforms which meet ethical and legal requirements (CACREP, 2024, standard 1.l), but also support students and their site supervisors in understanding the ethical and legal requirements of telehealth and digital supervision. With an in-depth review, digital delivery standards have numerous parallels. This session intends to highlight best practices for counselor education programs to prepare counselor educators and supervisors to meet the numerous standards set forth for digital delivery counselor training that aligns with the latest version of the 2024 CACREP standards. Most counseling students and supervisees may now have experience using digital platforms, however, understanding how to align with digital delivery standards set forth by CACREP can be anxiety provoking. In this session, knowledge of telehealth practices will be applied to demystify the process.
