ACES is pleased to announce the hiring of two new part-time staff members effective January 1, 2020.  Dr. Kelly Duncan will serve as the ACES Executive Director and Dr. Korinne “Kori” Babel has agreed to serve in the role of ACES Assistant Conference Coordinator.



Dr. Kelly Duncan has been involved in the profession of counseling for over 30 years and has worked as a counselor educator since 2003.  She received her Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of South Dakota.  She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified School Counselor in the State of South Dakota.

Duncan served as the executive director of the South Dakota branch of the American Counseling Association for 15 years where she coordinated the membership and financial affairs of the organization, planned conferences and workshops, and advocated at the state and national level for the profession. Past professional leadership experiences include secretary of NCACES, chair of the ACA Midwest Region, and two terms as the Midwest Region representative to the ACA Governing Council.  She’s been the chair of several ACA task forces and committees.



Dr. Korinne “Kori” Babel is an assistant professor at Troy University- Phenix City.  She completed her Ph.D. in Counselor Education from Auburn University, MS in School Counseling from Argosy University-Sarasota, and a BS in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Florida. Dr. Babel is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor in the state of Georgia as well as a National Certified Counselor, and a Registered Play Therapist.

Babel has prior service within ACES as the Continuing Education Co-Chair and currently holds service roles in the American Counseling Association, the Association for Play Therapy, the Alabama Association for Play Therapy and National Childhood Traumatic Stress Network.  Research interests include counselor and counselor-in-training self-efficacy, Animal Assisted Play Therapy and TF-CBT.
