The University Denver (DU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean, Morgridge College of Education. The Morgridge College of Education (MCE) seeks a dean who will provide transformational leadership to prepare future generations of professional practitioners and scholars in education. That leadership involves offering academic programs of the highest quality for students; promoting and improving research and scholarship to advance knowledge; advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion among all members of the college community; promoting the work of the college externally; and engaging community partners across the state to establish mutually beneficial partnerships.
Founded in 1864, DU is an independent, doctoral-granting university with a vision to be a great private university dedicated to the public good. DU is situated in the Denver metro area, a vibrant and diverse urban center in the Rocky Mountain region, home to 2.9 million people. DU, ranked in the top 100 universities in the country, has 5,700 undergraduates, 8,000 graduate students, and 700+ full-time faculty.
MCE is a leader in innovative and effective approaches for promoting learning throughout the lifespan. MCE promotes educational change and social equity in addition to providing leadership for the improvement of education, mental health, and information services and systems. Home to nearly 70 faculty, 50 staff, and 1,000 domestic and international graduate students, the College provides 20 graduate-level degree and certificate options across 10 programs with in-person, online, and hybrid learning options.
The dean of the Morgridge College of Education provides academic, intellectual, and administrative leadership for the college. The dean works with key stakeholders to articulate the college’s strategic direction, consistent with the University’s vision, values, mission, and goals. The dean is responsible for all aspects of the colleges operations, including communicating and implementing the college’s academic mission, consistent with the highest standards of quality; effectively representing MCE to internal and external constituents; engaging in successful fundraising to elevate the visibility of the college; collaborating with graduate units across the University in curricular and research initiatives; ensuring that the college is fiscally well managed; and working collaboratively with faculty to improve its academic programs. The dean is appointed by the provost with the concurrence of the chancellor.
We welcome applicants who are currently associate or full professors; however, the successful candidate must have a distinguished academic record that merits appointment as a tenured full professor at DU in an appropriate discipline within MCE. Candidates should have a record of sustained excellence in research/scholarship/creative work, teaching, and service. The candidate will also have demonstrated skill and experience as a bold and innovative leader and evidence of an equity-based leadership approach. The next dean must also demonstrate commitment to promoting diversity and equity and a track record of outcomes leading to a more inclusive environment. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate experience working with a diversity of disciplines and programs, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to build bridges across the college, campus, and community.
Salary: The salary range for this position is $250,000 – $260,000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
