Assistant/Associate Professor Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Position Summary:

The School of Health Studies and Education at Saint Joseph’s University invites applications for a tenure track faculty member to develop and lead the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program and Addictions Counseling certificate to begin in Summer 2021. This position is for a 9 month tenure track, open rank faculty position and a secondary appointment as Program Director. The secondary appointment as Program Director carries expectations for summer availability. There is opportunity for additional summer teaching contracts.

The Department seeks experienced counselor education candidates who have expertise in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC). Additional expertise in Addictions Counseling is desired. The CMHC program is SJU’s newest graduate degree program and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to be influential in the design and development of this graduate program. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is strongly interested in program development and committed to counselor identity and academic quality in the preparation of counselors.
The School of Health Studies and Education was launched in 2019 and includes over 1700 students, primarily graduate students, offering degrees in education, health studies, health administration, applied behavior analysis, and health informatics. The School also hosts the university’s sole doctoral degree program, the Interdisciplinary Doctor of Education for Educational Leaders, and the Kinney Center for Autism Education and Support. The School also works closely with the university’s Center for Addiction Recovery and Education (CARE) and the Institute for Clinical Bioethics.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning
Developing and teaching online graduate courses in CMHC.
SJU teaching load is 9 credit hours in each semester for fall/spring semesters.
Planning and coordinating residency experiences
Advising students
Supervision and Clinical Experiences
Align clinical experiences with SHSE vision for community partnerships
Supervise practicum and internship students
Provide leadership related to best practices in clinical experiences
Use technology to improve clinical experiences
Secondary Appointment as Program Director
Provide leadership in the development of the program to meet CACREP accreditation requirements
Work with the Office of Graduate and Extended Studies to support program admissions, orientations, and open houses for recruitment
Represent the program in the university community and beyond to promote visibility of the program
Recruit, hire, onboard, and support program faculty (adjunct and full-time), collaborating with the Chair and other content specialists in the department to ensure adjunct instructor qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Completed PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP accredited program
The successful candidate should have at least five years of experience in counselor education teaching, research, and service with significant clinical experience in community mental health and addictions counseling.
Licensure as an LPC in PA, or license eligible with commitment to apply within year 1 of date of hire
National Certified Counselor (NCC)
Commitment to social justice and advocacy in counseling

Preferred Qualifications:

CAADC in PA or MAC through NBCC
Ideally, the candidate will have professional administrative/leadership experience to support program development and pursuit of an initial program accreditation through CACREP and a regional or national reputation in counselor education.
