The Department of Counseling at California State University, Fullerton invites applications for a tenure-track position in our Ánimo Latinx Counseling Emphasis to begin Fall 2022. The Department of Counseling is a CACREP-accredited program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling that prepares graduate students to seek the Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and the Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) credentials in California. The successful candidate will be working in a premiere counselor education program in Southern California that enrolls a culturally diverse student body. The successful candidate will be teaching in our Ánimo Emphasis along with courses that are part of the core CACREP curriculum with the Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialty. The Ánimo Emphasis is designed to address the professional, curricular, and training needs of mental health counselors working with Latinx and Spanish-speaking clients. Furthermore, the Ánimo Emphasis focuses on developing self-awareness as a bilingual and bicultural counselor, knowledge of Latinx-cultures and therapeutic-Spanish, familiarity with interventions appropriate to Latinx and Spanish-speaking clients, and social justice advocacy for issues relevant to the Latinx community. Courses in the Ánimo Emphasis include: COUN 511B Pre-Practicum; COUN 522B Techniques of Brief Treatment & Assessment (i.e., DSM); COUN 527B Systems of Family Counseling; COUN 530B Beginning Practicum; and COUN 584B Advanced Practicum. CSUF faculty are committed teacher-scholars who bring research and creative discovery to life for students in classrooms and individually mentored projects. The candidate is also expected to conduct research that leads to peer reviewed publications. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the department, advise students, serve on committees, and participate in the broader university and disciplinary communities. This faculty member should maintain a firm commitment to valuing multicultural perspectives with an intersectional lens, in addition to demonstrating a professional track record that reflects that commitment. Required Qualifications at the Assistant Level
- Doctorate in counselor education, counseling psychology or related field by the appointment date;
- Demonstrated professional identity as and demonstrated commitment to an identity as a counselor educator as defined by CACREP with clear affiliations to relevant counseling associations (i.e., membership with ACA/ACES);
- Broad knowledge of the clinical mental health counseling curriculum;
- Bilingual fluency in spoken Spanish;
- Knowledge of Latinx cultures and social justice issues relevant to the Latinx community (e.g., immigration/acculturation, identity, colorism, intersectionality, etc.,);
- Evidence of the ability to conduct research (including dissertation research);
- University level teaching experience (including co-teaching and/or guest lecturing);
- Demonstrated potential for effective integration of technology into instruction;
- Demonstrated awareness/knowledge of racial inequities and challenges faced by historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged groups;
- Demonstrated commitment and contributions to social justice advocacy through: teaching/mentoring graduate students, research agenda and publications, and/or service activities; and
- The ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, faculty, and community who are from intersecting marginalized social groups.
Required Qualifications at the Associate Level
- Qualifications for the Associate Level should include all of the requirements at the Assistant Level with the following additions:
Evidence of the ability to conduct research with no less than five publications (e.g., journal articles, book chapters, books, monographs, etc.), including at least one first author publication and at least one blind, refereed journal article. Some publications should be within counselor education journals or should reflect the counselor education field as required by CACREP accreditation.
- Full time teaching experience at the graduate level for at least five years in a program that leads to licensure in mental health counseling or marriage and family therapy. If the doctorate is not in counselor education, this teaching experience must be full time for no less than one year in a counselor education program prior to 2013 in order to meet CACREP accreditation requirements.
- Demonstrated service activities in at least six major roles. Three strong service activities should be within the University, and at least one of those should be outside the Department. Three strong service activities should be outside the university that provide service to the profession or the community.
- In depth knowledge of social justice issues such as critical race theory; liberation psychology; intersectionality; Black feminist or womanist theories; and/or dismantling anti-Black racism.
- Proficient in reading and writing Spanish;
- Graduate from a CACREP accredited program;
- Experience with CACREP accreditation;
- Licensed or license-eligible as a professional counselor or equivalent (i.e., LPC, LPCC, LMCHC, etc.) in current state or license-eligible in California;

- Candidate Commitment to Inclusive Excellence Statement: Write a 1-2 page statement describing how you infuse social justice and multicultural principles throughout your work as an educator, researcher, and in any service activities (including clinical work) you have done and plan to do (please address all these areas). Describe how you have accrued knowledge and plan to continue to acquire knowledge related to social justice advocacy, diversity, equity and inclusion in this position. Indicate if you have experience working with first generation or historically marginalized student populations;

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications, and is subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases.
