ACES RESPONSE TO COUNSELING PROGRAM CONCERNS

Dear Counselor Education Colleagues: ACES sends our thoughts and prayers to all those impacted by COVID-19. We have worked in large and small groups to consider how this current situation has influenced the work that we do as counselor educators and supervisors-in the classroom, through supervision, where and how we are working, etc. Recently, members of the ACES executive committee reached out to CACREP to engage in a discussion about how we as Counselor Educators can appropriately respond to accreditation demands while reflecting many of our current realities. From that discussion came many ideas about how ACES can support the Counselor Education and Supervision community, as well as information about CACREP’s next steps, including upcoming board meetings that are planned. We will let CACREP share any material that comes from that. For ACES, we would like to host a webinar on resources and innovative strategies that Counselor Education programs might consider when working to move their students through clinical courses, specifically practicum and internship. We will host a panel of respected scholars from different counseling specialities, who might share strategies that have, or can, work for their campus. Of course, any strategy that is employed should be contextually based, and situated around the resources that the program has available to them through their university. Shortly, we will announce the date and time of the webinar and attempt to share more resources. We would like to thank all the Counselor Educators who have tirelessly worked to support their students, programs, and the professional as we move through this unprecedented time. We hope you and your loved ones are well, and continue to be.
